Obama’s Father Figure: Frank Marshall Davis

On his first Father’s Day in the White House, Barack Obama exalted the role of surrogate dads:

“We also honor those surrogate fathers who raise, mentor, or care for someone else’s child. Thousands of young children benefit from the influence of great men, and we salute their willingness to give and continue giving.”

Ann Dunham married Barack Obama’s father, the focus of his “autobiography.” Barack Senior abandoned the family before the child was two years old. Dad was not exactly father of the year. He is described as a “drunk and a bigot,” who was a cruel man, prone to drunken rages.

Time reporter Amanda Ripley says Ann filed for divorce from Barack Senior in 1964, citing “grievous mental suffering” as the grounds. That may have been the standard grounds for divorce in those days.

But Barack Senior’s third wife, Ruth, claimed he beat her brutally in drunken rages. Sharon Churcher describes Barack Senior as an abusive bigamist and womanizer. Obama blames “racism” on both sides for the demise of his parents’ marriage.

Ann met Indonesian Lolo Soetoro and married him when Barry was about six years old. Starting a new life with a new husband is one thing but dragging a young child to a Third World country is quite another.

Jakarta, Indonesia in the 1960’s was a harsh place for a child. Not much of an infrastructure and staggering inflation which was creating shortages. Indonesia was a violent place in the era following hostilities with the Dutch. Not exactly the white picket fence kind of place.

Or perhaps he was lionizing his late maternal grandfather, a man he has described as having a “complete inability to discipline his appetites.” (The Audacity of Hope, Page 203). Young Barry had the benefit of several surrogate dads, none as markedly debauched as “Frank”.

Another one of Barry’s splendid adult role models was communist, poet, alcoholic, sexual deviant and fomenter of racial hatred, Frank Marshall Davis. Cleverly disguised as “Frank” in Dreams, we learn that young Barry was treated to Davis’ counsel on numerous occasions. Dear Grandpa Stanley, blessed with an inordinate amount of free time thanks to his wife’s hard work, enjoyed whiling away the hours with Davis, drinking and smoking pot.

Davis was an open supporter of the Soviet Union and his influence on Obama is hard to overlook. The poet also admitted to writing a pornographic novel under the pseudonym of Bob Greene in which the protagonist seduces a 13 year old girl. Davis claimed he had changed names and identities but the novel was based on actual experiences. To clarify the depth of Marshall’s perversion: he actually believed sex with a 13 year old child would be in the child’s best interests. He graciously spared her the sting of rejection and made certain her earliest sexual experiences would be with the maestro himself, according to Toby Harnden in the Telegraph. Davis also proudly proclaimed himself bisexual, a voyeur and exhibitionist who wished he’d had two penises.

In a lifetime of associations with plainly unsavory characters, poet and pornographer, Frank Marshall Davis ranks among the least savory of the lot.

In yet another series of twists and loops, Frank Marshall, who claimed to be the victim of a lynching at age five, was born in Kansas, as were the Dunham’s. It is not entirely clear whether Davis and Dunham knew each other in Kansas. They all ended up in Hawaii. Davis, an unabashed admirer of the Soviet Union, member of the Communist Party USA (CPUSA) and fomenter of racial hatred, had worked as a columnist in Chicago, where he fancied himself someone of Great Importance.

Davis’s support of the Soviet Union and the Communist Party was so extreme that he was rejected by the NAACP in Chicago, not exactly a conservative organization, out of fears that his extremism would drive new members away. In 1956, Davis had exercised his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination while being investigated by the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC). He chose to remain silent rather than acknowledge the excruciatingly obvious–that he was a communist. Davis’s support of the Soviet Union and the Communist Party was so extreme that he was rejected by the NAACP in Chicago, not exactly a conservative organization, out of fears that his extremism would drive new members away. In 1956, Davis had exercised his Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination while being investigated by the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC). He chose to remain silent rather than acknowledge the excruciatingly obvious–that he was a communist.

Davis was an important mentor to Obama and they consorted until Barry left for college. Davis shared his special version of how to improve race relations: “never trust white people.” Davis died in 1987 but was eventually replaced by Reverend Jeremiah Wright.

Obama’s earliest visits to dear Uncle Frank began when Barry was just a vulnerable young boy of ten. Already confused and traumatized by his chaotic childhood, who better to step up to the role of Big Brother than a race bating, America hating, rabid sexual deviant and pornographer?

Cheney on Colin Powell: “I didn’t know he was still a Republican”

Former Vice President Dick Cheney took an extraordinary public swipe at Colin Powell Sunday, questioning in a TV interview whether the former Bush administration secretary of state was even a Republican anymore.

Cheney, appearing on CBS’s Face the Nation, said he was taking the side of Rush Limbaugh over Powell in the ongoing dispute in the GOP between the conservative talk show host and moderate retired general.

“Well if I had to choose in terms of being a Republican, I’d go with Rush Limbaugh,” Cheney told moderator Bob Schieffer. “My take on it was Colin had already left the party — I didn’t know he was still a Republican.”

A somewhat taken-aback Schieffer asked: “You think he’s not a Republican?”

Cheney responded by pointing out that Powell had endorsed President Barack Obama last fall.

“I assume that that’s some indication of his loyalty and his interest,” Cheney said.

Cheney, a longstanding friend and ally of former Defense Secretary and Powell rival Donald Rumsfeld, butted heads with Powell during the Bush years but usually kept his criticism private.

The comments reflect not just the the former vice president’s lingering dislike for Powell, but his strong preference for keeping the GOP moored to conservatism.

“I think we win elections when we have good, solid conservative principles to run upon and based our policies on those principles,” Cheney said.

Rumblings of Outrage: DHS Continues to Tick Off Combat Veterans

The recently disclosed Department of Homeland Security report on “rightwing extremism ” that taints veterans returning from Afghanistan and Iraq as potential terrorists is really ticking off both active duty and veterans. And that outrage has not subsided. Below are more videos that have been posted on youtube by veterans responding to the DHS smear.

First up, is the active duty combat arms soldier who sounded off, amazed and outraged that he is considered a threat, and reminding the DHS personnel that they took the same oath that he did, to defend the Constitution. We have posted this before, but it sets up the responses by the veterans, who were responding specifically to this active duty soldier’s video:

In response to that, the following Army veteran builds on the above soldier’s statement by pointing out that DHS and the elites it serves consider veterans a threat precisely because all veterans swore an oath to defend the Constitution:

And below is a former Army Staff Sergeant, a paratrooper and combat veteran who served in both Afghanistan and Iraq until just last year, adding his well considered, but rather colorfull thoughts. Note, his video contains some VERY strong language:

And here is an Army Ranger, Apachegrunt, who just got out of the Army three days before making this video, adding his thoughts. Once again, some very strong language here and this Ranger does not mince words:

Among some other choice and colorful words for the DHS, he points out the fact that his oath is to the Constitution, not to anyone or anything else, and just because his service is ended that doesn’t mean his oath is canceled. Toward the end of the video, the Ranger holds up his Soldiers Code card:

V. LASTLY, I AM PROUD OF MY COUNTRY AND IT’S FLAG. I WANT TO LOOK BACK AND SAY THAT I AM PROUD TO HAVE SERVED MY COUNTRY AS A SOLDIER.

And here is another veteran, of the 1st Cavalry Division, who lays out the many different types of people now put on the government’s “list” as potential terrorists (he discusses veterans being added to the list at 7:20 of part I):

We commend these men for standing up and speaking out - speaking truth to power as the left used to like to say.

Note that none of them are part of some “extremist organization” (whatever that means). They are individuals, speaking their own minds, and they are offended and angry and they see that what is really going on is that the DHS considers them a threat simply because they know how to fight and because they swore an oath to defend the Constitution.

With the latest DHS smear document, the Domestic Extremism Lexicon, labelling “constitutionalists” and “patriots” as extremists (which means the same thing as “terrorists”), it is clear that if you dare to support the Constitution, and dare to quote the founding fathers of this nation, and take the Constitution seriously, then you will be considered an “extremist” and a threat to the powers that be among the political elite.

This is the tactic used by all governments that turn oppressive: use vague, broad brushed labeling of people as “enemies of the state” to marginalize them and increase the artificial divide between the people and the police and military, and then use that labeling and marginalization to make people afraid to speak up, to chill their speech, and silence them out of fear of being singled out for persecution. The DHS reports are such broad smears that they basically boil down to “anyone who doesn’t agree with us is a potential terrorist.” The final stage of persecution is to actually apply all the powers of the state against anyone who does dare to speak out, arresting them on trumped up charges of terrorism, for example. We are still in the smear and marginalization stage, and are also begining the chilling of speach stage, but we can see where this is headed.

But as these veterans point out, the DHS smears of veterans, constitutionalists and patriots is backfiring just as badly as Obama’s suggestion that disabled and injured veterans pay for their own medical care. Nothing is waking up the people, and especially the veterans, like these leaked government “reports.” This is not Germany, the USSR, or communist China. This is America, and attempts to chill our speech and marginalize us only make us stronger and more resolved to speak out.

White House aide out after $357,012 photo-op with Air Force One

A White House aide joined the unemployment lines today for his role in Air Force One’s controversial photo-op flyover above New York, the Obama administration just announced. (Of course, it’s scheduled for a Friday afternoon.)

In a statement, the White House said President Obama accepted the resignation of military office director Louis Caldera. Caldera, a former Army secretary, took responsibility for the Air Force flyover that sparked 9/11-echo panic in lower Manhattan on April 27.

What the White House wanted was the photo above. What it got at first was the one down below at the bottom, from frightened New Yorkers’ cameras and cellphones.

The political cost can’t yet be calculated. Obama supporters won’t care. But the fact is against advice from the outgoing Bush administration, Obama’s team changed Caldera’s White House job classification from a career military officer to a political appointee. Now, we’ll see which way they go with the second appointment to the office since Jan. 20.

The White House also released its review of the flight near the Statue of Liberty and the one photo.

Earlier, Defense Secretary Robert Gates apologized for the incident and said it had cost as much as $357,000. The fly-by with a plane used as Air Force One and two other Air Force crafts shocked commuters in Manhattan and New Jersey and was condemned by furious city and state officials.

In a letter released today, Gates apologized for the incident. The letter was posted on the Senate website of John McCain, the ranking Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee. McCain has called the incident an “Air Farce One photo op.” (Intentional misspelling)

Gates said the cost of a jumbo jet that is used as the president’s plane was estimated between $300,658 and $328,835. The cost of two accompanying F-16 jets was $28,177 for a maximum….

…total of $357,012. The idea was to use the April 27 flight for publicity pictures that included the Statue of Liberty and the New York skyline.

Instead, 911 emergency lines were clogged by people who saw the planes and thought of another terrorist attack like on Sept. 11, 2001, when two airliners crashed into the World Trade Center, killing almost 3,000 people. The “United States of America” markings on the Air Force planes were not visible from ground level.

The publicity photographs have not been released, though the White House has promised to make them public. Obama has personally apologized for the incident, as have other officials, including the now-unemployed White House military aide Caldera.

Gates’ letter said the reaction to the low-flying planes was understandable and “we deeply regret the anxiety and alarm that resulted from this mission.”

But Gates also insisted that the appropriate agencies and air traffic controllers were told of the event. New York City officials have said they were asked not to inform the public beforehand.

“I am concerned that this highly public and visible mission did not include an appropriate public affairs plan nor adequate review and approval by senior Air Force and DOD [Department of Defense] officials,” Gates added. He promised further review by defense officials.
