The ship is sinking; the rats are running in one direction and we as the eternally optimistic are running in the opposite direction following screaming politicians that are calling out ‘WHERE IS JOE THE PLUMMER’!
It truly says something about us as a society when our national attention can be so easily distracted by the normal trappings of everyday life; the lies of politicians that continue social morass, as they try to prove to us that they are somehow connected, picking over the rotting corpse of the American middle class like a couple of vultures.
Lincoln didn’t free the slaves out of purely an act of morality or conscious. Lincolns Treasury Secretary, Salmon P. Chase authored a telling thesis “Slave Power conspiracy”. The overriding principal was that southern slave owners saw enormous wealth with little or no overhead.
This wealth, Chase put forth, would be used to control the powers of liberty thus seizing control of the government. Chase coined the phrase “Free Soil, Free Labor, Free Men” and figured out that by freeing the slaves he could take power away form the southern slave owner and TAX the wages of the now freed paid workers.
This was not a “Thousand Points of Light” or “No Child Left Behind” but it was the as concept; government control and greed and it need a nice name… Let’s see, ‘Free Soil’ and its terminology wasn’t working… lets try “The Emancipation Proclamation”.
Swallow this, after all we are the “Pill” generation. I have this pill, it will make you smart, nice looking, get paid well and people will love you… but it also has some poison in it that will kill you. Want to try it?
I am not suggesting that freeing the slaves was a bad thing, not at all. Lincoln had to package it correctly, to achieve the otherwise unachievable.
The point… It was very, very long ago when our government was about governing the principles of Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness. For either of the these candidates to suggest that it will not be more of the same for “Joe the Plummer” or Jay the Jacuzzi salesman is lunacy.
My one and only problem with Obama is that he will not acknowledge that his agenda is motivated by a extensive and documented socialist upbringing and that his policy’s will take us closer towards socialism. His glitzy packaging is “HOPE” otherwise it would be political suicide to call what it is, socialism.
I think Robert Ehrlich (former Governor of Maryland) said it best. I apologize if I do not get this quite right… “I hope you get what you want, and you get it real good”.
